Betty Jean (Ward) Queen Death & Obituary: Age 92, passed away peacefully at Gordon Hospice House on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Born on January 18, 1932, Betty was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Early Life and Family Background of Betty Jean Queen

Betty Jean Queen was born to the late Willie Robert and Josie Bell Ward. A graduate of Harmony High School in 1949, Betty was a lifelong member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she found community and faith throughout her life. In September 1950, Betty married Ralph Queen, who preceded her in death in March 1986.

Family and Loved Ones: A Legacy of Love

Betty is survived by her three sons, affectionately known as “Her Boys”:

  • Donald Queen of Harmony
  • Danny Queen of Texas
  • James Queen of Union Grove

She is also survived by her brother, Jim Ward (Phyllis) of Winston-Salem, and sisters, Shirley Joyner (Tom) of Sanford and Martha Barkley of Harmony. Betty’s love extended to her grandchildren, with four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and held close.

Career and Retirement: A Life of Dedication

Betty retired from Burlington Industries, where she worked with dedication and commitment. Her life of service and hard work was balanced with a deep love for her family, which she cherished above all else.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful neighbors and caregivers at Gordon Hospice House for their compassionate care during Betty’s final days. Their support brought comfort to Betty and her family during this time.

Visitation and Memorial Service Details

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 12, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, followed by a private family graveside service at Harmony Cemetery. Rev. Jacob Scott will officiate the service.
